• The Jay Way – Have you even been to San Francisco if you don’t take a picture of the Golden Gate Bridge? This trail gives you a perfect view of the bridge and the Pacific Ocean, but also takes you past the Sutro Baths and Point Lobos. Take a picture in front of the Sutro Baths and show it to the front desk when you get back and you’ll get a bottle of wine on us!

• The Jay Way: Hike along this trail that stretches diagonally across San Francisco, from the southeast edge to the northwest corner, and seems to deliberately bypass all the S.F. tourism guidebook standards and trendiest neighborhoods, proving that there’s so much left in the city to be discovered. In other words: It’s a San Francisco trail for San Franciscans who think they’ve seen it all.

• The Jay Way – When you exit the Presidio trail, walk to Fillmore street and grab an ice cream at Salt & Straw or rest your legs laying in Alta Plaza Park. If you’re lucky, Karl will be hiding, and you can sit in the sun.

• The Jay Way – Make a pitstop along the way at Palm City for a hoagie, wine, and/or beer halfway through your journey and don’t miss the Botanical Gardens before you come or go.

• The Jay Way – Veer off trail and visit the Presidio Tunnel Tops for an amazing view of the Golden Gate Bridge or stop by the Presidio Field Station for an interactive family activity.

• The Jay Way – Grab some coffee on The Third Floor and make your way to Rodeo Beach. You can bring lunch with you and enjoy a picnic on the beach and watch the surfers. Maybe you bring some drinks and forget the hike all together!

• The Jay Way – After finishing your hike, drive to Stinson Beach and if you’re brave enough, jump in the water! Even if you just dipped your toes in, reward yourself with some soft serve ice cream.  

Explore the city on a guided walking tour through The Jay’s partnership with SF City Guides. Whether you want a history lesson on the city, understand each location that’s uniquely San Francisco, or you like to “take the stairs,” they have a tour for you. 

Take a full, or half, day to explore Sausalito. Walk from The Jay to the Ferry Building, arriving 15 minutes earlier than your boat, and book your ticket there to take the scenic, and short, ferry across the bay. 

Maybe you prefer to explore the city on wheels instead of by boat. Rent a bike and take a guided tour across the bridge to Sausalito. You can always catch the ferry on your way back if you want both experiences!

 Combine the best of both worlds – eating and exploring! Take a tour of Chinatown and its delicious food. This tour even includes a visit to the Golden Gate Fortune Cookie Factory where cookies have been made by hand since 1962. 

Grab a drink and some food on the Third Floor and then head down the street to the Punchline for a night of laughs at one of their fantastic comedy shows. Check their schedule to grab tickets and see their lineup. 

Maybe you’re more private than public. Book a private sailboat tour and spend the day on the water. You can head to Sausalito, sail next to Alcatraz, or pass under the Golden Gate Bridge.   

Did the installation in our front entrance inspire you to have a day filled with art? Head over to the SF MOMA to visit one of the largest modern art museums in the United States.

Enjoy the outdoors while walking through Golden Gate Park and duck into the de Young museum if you forgot your extra jacket (which you always need in SF) to warm up and enjoy art through paintings, textiles, prints, and more. 

If you’re on a hike on the Lands End Trail (which we recommend you do) stop into the Legion of Honor fine arts museum to see European paintings, sculptures, ancient art, graphic art, and contemporary art. 

Open every day from 6 am to 9 pm. Sitting on the roof of the downtown transit terminal is a 5+ acre rooftop park that feels like an oasis tucked away from the bustling downtown area. There are plenty of benches and tables for lunch or coffee chats, a “Bus Fountain” with 247 jets of water that activate whenever a bus is arriving or departing, and a small children’s play area. No stairs or escalators needed as there’s a short gondola that can take you from the sidewalk to the rooftop. 

This mezzanine overlooks the Financial District and provides views of the city as you’re tucked away into the tranquil garden that’s decorated with olive trees and a small bamboo forest.

Open Monday through Friday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. While this rooftop doesn’t have the same garden feel as the others, it does offer beautiful views of the city. There are a couple of benches to sit and relax in, but we recommend standing and taking in the city. 

Open Monday through Friday from 7:00 am through 5:30 pm. Located at the foot of the Transamerica Pyramid is an oasis of redwood trees and ferns. The park has it all with grassy areas, a fountain, sculptures, and benches. Enjoy your morning, afternoon, or evening here. 

Open Monday through Friday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. This rooftop terrace, located on the 15th floor, is not technically a bar, but its visitors often bring food and drinks to enjoy among the planted trees.

Open Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 5:30 pm. This park, tucked between buildings, feels too good to be true as you sit under the shaded pergola and fern trees, listening to the water feature designed by Pepo Pilcher, and enjoy a book, a friend, or solitude!

This street level park includes The Bechtel Corp. History Museum (open Monday through Friday from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm) which is inside a replica of a private railroad car that the Bechtel family would reside during the company’s early days.

Open every day from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm (carousel, 10:00 am to 5:00 pm). The not so secret Yerba Buena Gardens includes 5-acres of planted gardens and flowers where visitors can relax, play or look at art created by noted artists from around the world. There is even the historic Loof carousel at the Children’s Creativity Musuem, which we recommend you take a spin on.
